Must See in CT

SUMMER ON THE COAST - IT'S THE BEST.

beach

We hate sand where it doesn't belong, but the paths at Rocky Neck State Park and the boardwalk at Hole in the Wall are our favorites. Hole in the Wall has a great 1-mile boardwalk.

PIZZA

Pepe's in New Haven is our fave, but Illiano's in town hits the spot too. A note - Pepe’s also has an adjacent New Haven location called “The Spot” as well as a location in Mohegan Sun Casino. Mystic Pizza = so overrated!

MYSTIC AQUARIUM

Since before the Engel family moved to Connecticut, the Mystic Aquarium was an excitement-inducing destination. Robyn's favorites are the beluga whales and the octopi.

the shack

judy and Kirk have gone to the Shack for lunch every day for the last 15 years. With an endorsement like that, you know it's worth it.

the book barn

Robyn's happy place. Goats and kitties galore, and so many books. Everywhere.

mystic seaport

Boats, boats boats - this is a great spot to learn more about the whaling, fishing, and nautical trade history of the region.

florence griswold museum

A museum and art gallery focused on the impressionist movement in southeastern Connecticut, this is an enjoyable trip in picturesque Old Lyme.

strolling in Stonington & mystic

What you think of when you think of quaint, coastal towns. Great to visit!

USS Nautilus

The Engel boys loved this growing up - it's a submarine museum located just off the US Navy Base in nearby Groton, CT.

block island

Catch the ferry in New London for a day trip to the Block (just made that up, don’t know if they actually call it that). Rent bikes, stroll around, enjoy a summer day.

ice cream

Many a late summer evening craving dairy treats have been spent at AC Peterson’s in Old Lyme (formerly Hallmarks). All made locally, they boast many delicious flavors near the water. Watching the sunset here isn't to be missed. Less picturesque but slightly better ice cream: Old Lyme Ice Cream Shoppe.

newport

Check out the opulent Gilded Age mansions - The Breakers is Robyn’s favorite.
